Planning ranges you can audit, from sources we name.
1. Aggregated project data
Ranges start from aggregated completed-project costs across national contractor datasets and published cost references — never from a single bidder or a marketing "starting at" figure.
2. Driver decomposition
Every guide names the 4–6 variables that move the number and their typical impact, so you can place your project inside the range instead of guessing from the average.
3. Regional honesty
Labor varies ±25–30% by market. Ranges are national planning figures; every guide states the regional adjustment plainly rather than pretending one number fits all.
4. Annual review
Material and labor markets move. Every guide carries its updated date and is re-checked at least annually — sooner when tariffs, refrigerant rules, or code changes shock a category.
5. No contractor payola
Ranges are never sponsored, and no contractor pays for placement or favorable framing. Contractor links are plain links unless a relationship exists and is labeled.
